I am truly a 'lone traveler' and have never belonged to my country, my home, my friends, or even my immediate family, with my whole heart; in the face of all these ties, I have never lost a sense of distance and a need for solitude..." -Einstein

Silence as a Quarry

I like to hear them talk, like two rusting church bells humming in the mid-day

They cover up the air with a dusted speech, old and forthcoming

And upholster blankets in the garden, digging at the roots of other plants

Bringing a world to surface that was not originally theirs

With gloves that fit so perfectly around the circumference of their palm and finger met

They shush in secret with one digit pressed to their lips,

Invisible like webs weaving the surreptitious thread over the unknowing flies

The seeds of their harmonies, the buzz of this old building

And earth bits bring out their delicate intent of catching rumor and harvesting gossip

But I like to hear them nonetheless

Because I know in my heart that they are good

How they are slaves to their relevance,

Afraid that too much quiet will permit seepage

Drown the empty, flood the toxins

And this gives me hope that maybe these old chimes are conversation moats

Made to keep rain from accumulating in an open pit

And most importantly,

for the excavation of silence and remaining sane.

The Third Rock Outdoor Fire Pit.

This hand made fire pit is not only a wonderful source of heat, but also an outstanding work of art. The Third Rock Outdoor Fire Pit is made of made from a quarter inch thick carbon steel and has an iron oxide finish. The size of the fire pit is about 42 inches tall with a 36 inch diameter. Rick Wittrig, the designer, has brought out the hidden fiery inner core of the earth with this piece. This simple yet powerful work makes the idea of setting the world on fire not so bad in this case. The fire pit looks gorgeous and keeps you warm, achieving a perfect balance as functional art.

Fan Xiaoyan‘s sculpture expresses a spanking new interpretation of the modern Chinese woman. In Xiaoyan’s series of sculptures flesh and metal are combined with an acute severity, exploring the mechanics of penetration with unsettling force. Cyborgs are a metaphor for the technological advancement of the human race and Xiaoyan uses cruder machinery such as saw blades, engine rotors and piping to convey a more primal, sexual robot humanoid.”
